Today,Shortmama over at http://familyofshorts.blogspot.com has said that our dear someone letter should be to our ten-year-old-selves. This is a great idea. Lord knows my 10 year old self could have used some advice from someone. Sooooo, without further ado, here it is.
Dear 10 year old Kelly,
The best advice I can give you, 16 years later, is don't let the chaos that you are about to go through cloud your vision. I will tell you that your middle and high school years are going to be rough. You are going to go from having college scholarship offers after taking your SAT's at 12, to being on your own at 15. You will go from having your poetry published in The National Anthology at 11 to walking to work at a Waffle House at 16. You will be a single mother at 18. However, I would not tell you to change any of this. These things are what will make you who you are today.
Today, you are a married mother pregnant with her 4th child. You do not have much money, but you have a decent life, and you are a good person. All of the crazy things you have done have led to this moment. It might have been hard, but it was well worth it.
I will tell you, that even though trusting people in your life that didn't deserve it has hurt you in the past, it all turned out ok. Even though people told you that you would never amount to anything, they were wrong. In your children's eyes you are the world, and that is the best feeling ever. All of the fighting, drinking, and drugs that you saw as a child, they have made you realize how not to raise your children. You have also gotten the good traits from your daddy (he's gone now). You learned to never give up on your children, and to love them always, no matter what.
For now, enjoy being a child. Keep in mind that the bad never lasts forever. The clouds eventually clear, and the sunshine that comes is beautiful. Just don't give up!
Love Yourself Always,
26 year old Kelly

thanks so much for joining in!
Im sorry for all your struggles in the past, but they made you who you are today and it sounds like you have a happy life now!
That was a nice letter.
I wouldn't write to my 10 year old self because she's out running the neighborhood and causing trouble and I doubt she'd pause to read it.
You left me a comment the other day and stated about your rough childhood also. After reading a few of your posts, I have decided that you are well worth following. Thanks again for leaving a comment and sharing your story here.
I hate to hear that you had these struggles in your life. I'm glad you were able to pull something valuable from that. Your kids are lucky to have you.
